Barangay Saripongpong, Lagonoy, Camarines Sur is a rural community surrounded by mountainous terrains. Majority of their land area is utilized for rice fields and other agricultural products that help provide livelihood to its residents. Their Barangay Office can be accessed by a concrete road, but other parts of the community can only be reached by two-wheeled vehicles.
The children of Barangay Saripongpong are suffering from malnutrition. Most of the families here rely on their harvest in order to put food on the table, but this is not enough to provide the proper nutrition to the 100 children residing in this community. Most of them are underweight, especially those within the 1-12 y.o. age bracket, and are smaller in size compared to the average Filipino child.
The ongoing effects of the pandemic has caused rural communities like Barangay Saripongpong to become more challenged with resources. And the upcoming typhoon season will not make it easier for them and their harvest.
With the support of the Barangay Leaders, this project aims to build a feeding program to provide the local children with healthier meals and lower the rate of malnutrition. Community members will work together in managing their community kitchen, preparation of meals, and monitoring their progress in order to ensure continuous development among the children’s health.
With only PHP 30.00 per meal, let’s aim to provide healthy lunch meals for 100 children for 60 days.
