When an act of kindness multiplies, it helps more people. Everyone can help, no matter how small or big. As long as it comes from the heart, we can persuade more people to help. Financial scarcity is not an obstacle to helping those who are in need.
Millions of Filipino children are suffering from hunger, which is one of our country's longstanding health problems. Kusina ng Kalinga (KNK) is Gawad Kalinga's (GK) anti-poverty campaign to end hunger among Filipino children. Barangay San Ignacio in San Mateo Isabela is one of its beneficiaries, and we served nutritious hot meals to 350 children among the 6,076 kids that KNK is feeding in the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a surge in coronavirus cases in Luzon, leading to widespread hunger and affecting many families and children in the province of Isabela. To address this crisis, Kusina ng Kalinga opened a kitchen in Villa Conquistadores Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay San Ignacio San Mateo Isabela to provide nutritious meals for vulnerable children. We are grateful to our Nanay volunteers, who wake up early to prepare meals, and our partners, who support our cause. Thanks to their efforts, we fed 350 kids in Barangay San Ignacio, San Mateo Isabela, for 30 days during the pandemic.
“It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.” These words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta are ingrained in the heart and mind of Norilyn Lucero Cabillon, a full-time public elementary school teacher and a part-time Kusina ng Kalinga Kitchen Manager from San Mateo, Isabela. Norilyn sees helping others as a way of paying forward for all the blessings she has received. After getting to know Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK) in 2018, she has found an avenue to do just that and has never looked back. Her dream is for her pupils and all kids in the country to have a brighter future through education. With Kusina ng Kalinga and its advocacy to fill the hungry stomachs and hearts of Filipino children, she has positive beliefs that someday this dream will come true.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this initiative a reality. Your selflessness has made a significant impact on the lives of 350 kids in Barangay San Ignacio. May your kindness inspire others to join in the noble cause of leaving no child behind.
Currently, hunger is a serious issue, and it is getting worse. Make a difference by helping us fight hunger among Filipino children.
