Community leaders and volunteers respond to hunger among Filipino children in their barangay. They set up a community kitchen to cook daily nutritious lunch meals for over 350 kids.
In the Butuan kitchen, children’s meals would be packed in big food containers, the community leader would receive the meals and deliver and serve to each beneficiary. The kitchen is also a hub for bayanihan where volunteers, local government units, partners and leaders are essential for the program to work.
You can feed one child in Brgy. Pagatpatan, Butuan City for only Php 20.00 per meal. The community kitchen aims to provide meals for at least 120 days to kids ages 1 – 12 years old.
Hunger, especially among children, is a significant roadblock that the poor have to overcome on a daily basis. Through Kusina ng Kalinga (Care Kitchens), we build caring communities for our young. It is where lunchboxes or plates don’t just contain meals, but also carry the commitment to care together until no child is left hungry. This bayanihan effort is powered by Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK), Gawad Kalinga’s anti-hunger program.

When an act of kindness multiplies, it helps more people. Everyone can help, no matter how small or big. As long as it comes from the heart, we can persuade more people to help. Financial scarcity is not an obstacle to helping those who are in need.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a surge in coronavirus cases in Mindanao, leading to widespread hunger and affecting many families and children in the province of Butuan. To address this crisis, Kusina ng Kalinga opened a kitchen in Barangay Pagatpatan, Agusan del Norte, to provide nutritious meals for vulnerable children. We are grateful to our Nanay volunteers who wake up early to prepare meals and our partners who support our cause. Thanks to their efforts, we fed 350 kids in GK Pagatpatan during the pandemic.
Nanay Tata is among the kitchen volunteers and actively participates in Enchanted Farm Pagatpatan. She is a dedicated worker at Kapihan Ng Kapitbahayan as well. As a volunteer, Nanay Tata is committed to serving the community, especially those who need her services. We are grateful to all the passionate volunteers like Nanay Tata, who have been of immense help in enabling us to continue our mission of assisting communities in need.
