Punong GK Village is located in Barangay Punong, municipality of Matalom, Province of Leyte. This small community is accessible because of the paved road. Forty families are in the community, and there are 50 to 100 kids. Fishing is the villager’s primary source of income.
The province of Leyte was among the most badly hit areas by Super Typhoon Odette in December 2021, when it made landfall. It was the second powerful typhoon to hit the province after Typhoon Yolanda. A total of 185,529 homes were damaged, and production losses were estimated to be around PHP 614.27 million.
The local community daycare centre at GK Punong, Matalom, Leyte, was among those severely impacted. The roof was damaged, leaving it exposed to the elements. Unfortunately, due to the many houses being prioritized for reconstruction, the centre was not considered a priority and was left in disrepair. As a result, the young pupils were no longer able to use their classrooms, which is why the community had to improvise by creating a makeshift classroom out of bamboo above the river. However, it has been almost two years since the makeshift classroom was built, and it is now dilapidated. Holes are already visible, which poses a risk to the small children who walk on them.
Teachers and parents looked forward to using their old classroom since the makeshift classroom was no longer safe for the students. For the safety of the children, the locals sought financial aid to renovate their ruined daycare centre. This fundraising campaign aims to help teachers and the 50 daycare students in Barangay Punong.
This initiative aims to enhance kids' education by giving them a vibrant and safe learning environment, which will help them grow into more adept learners.
Your generosity will change the lives of the students in Punong GK Village. Your kindheartedness could be life-changing for them, giving them hope and the opportunity to start a new beginning in their newly renovated classroom.

When an act of kindness multiplies, it helps more people. Everyone can help, no matter how small or big. As long as it comes from the heart, we can persuade more people to help. Financial scarcity is not an obstacle to helping those who are in need.
The rehabilitation of the daycare centre began on January 29 and was completed on March 24, 2024. Throughout the construction process, the residents faced several challenges. They discovered that the building's foundation was dented and encountered difficulty finding some of the necessary materials for the rehabilitation as they were not available in the nearby hardware stores. The frequent rains in the province also hampered the construction progress. Additionally, due to budget constraints for skilled workers, the residents had to participate in the rebuilding process. However, the limited participation of the residents also contributed to delays in the construction.
However, these difficulties did not hinder the team from stopping the rehabilitation; they sought immediate action on their difficulty. For the foundation of the building, they reinforced pillars and replaced some structures; they sought out some materials from nearby towns. Lastly, they set up a meeting with the locals and the kapitbahayan leaders and discussed that their participation is essential for the success of the school rehabilitation.
This achievement would not have been possible without the tremendous efforts to bring it to fruition. Our collaborative work towards a common goal can yield great results that are truly wonderful to witness. The locals in the community and nearby areas, including the teachers and students, are very grateful for this amazing opportunity you have given them. Your generosity will have a significant impact on their lives. Let's continue to nurture our spirit of generosity and strive to build even stronger and more resilient communities.
