Libertad is a coastal municipality in the province of Antique. It is composed of 19 barangays and according to the 2020 census, now has an overall population of 17,507.
The municipal authorities in Libertad and Gawad Kalinga have seen the needs of the homeless elderly people in the area. They are constantly moved to tears whenever they see them having difficulty and feeling uncomfortable, which is why they want to help them by building a house for the Homeless Senior Citizens in the Municipality. The LGU does not have enough funding to carry out this initiative, thus they are seeking assistance in achieving this goal for homeless senior citizens in their community.
The House Building Project for Homeless Senior Citizens aims to help and give shelter to one of the most vulnerable individuals in the community. The project aims to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for homeless older persons at risk of falling further into poverty and loneliness. The house's design will incorporate senior needs such as accessibility, safety, and comfort. To minimize the negative effect on the environment, the house will be built with sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.
The project's main objective is to establish an ideal for sustainable and compassionate housing for elders in remote places. This venture aims to raise awareness about homelessness and motivate other communities to act. The project's success will be determined by the collaboration and support of the community of public workers, NGOs, and volunteers, as well as their dedication to ensuring that no elderly citizen is left homeless.
The target recipients need secure and comfortable homes. One of them is Mr Nemesio Miguel, a 73-year-old man who lives by himself in Barangay Pajo, Libertad Antique. He has been blind since he was seven years old, making it challenging to perform daily activities such as getting food for himself. His situation is compounded by animals such as cats and dogs that often snatch food from his house, making his life even more difficult. As he lives alone, he faces significant challenges in accessing basic needs such as food, shelter, and medical care. The lack of adequate support has made his daily life a constant struggle. The housing project will provide him with a safe and comfortable home where he can receive proper care and support. Mr Miguel expressed his gratitude for the project. Stating, "I am very grateful for this opportunity to have a new home. This will make my life easier and more comfortable, and I will no longer have to worry about being alone and homeless".
This fundraising effort aims to help the two homeless senior citizens from Barangay Pajo and Maramig. By building a house for homeless seniors, the project hopes to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness and inspire other communities to take action.
You can make a difference in the lives of these two senior citizens by supporting this effort. Your kindheartedness will significantly give them hope.
