Barangay Luparan is located in a mountainous area and was established in 1953. The name of the barangay was derived from two fables. The First story was about the experiences of the pioneer natives, the B'laan and Tagacaulos wildlife hunters, while hunting wild pigs, whereby the same leapt a long distance and seemingly flew (in Cebuano vernacular, the term "Lupad" means fly). The second is the prevalence of aeroplanes flying across the skies traversing the barangay. Hence the locals call the place Luparan," a Cebuano term for the fly zone.
GK Luparan is in Barangay Luparan, Sulop, Davao del Sur. GK Luparan is a Gawad Kalinga community with no GK houses; it was established through the BWI (Barangay Walang Iwanan), where this community adopted the GK programs because they believe they will help them improve their lives. Gawad Kalinga has not only given homes to the impoverished, giving them hope but has also developed creative efforts for mass relief, eradicating poverty through various campaigns.
The local government unit gave a free vacant lot to sixteen families from Barangay Luparan living in a landslide-prone location and squatting near the river bank. The LGU handed this project to the chosen recipients to keep them and their families safe. The barangay has given them a 2-month grace period to build their house and claim the allocated slots. They will lose the chance if they fail to do so, and another member on the list for the project will be taking their place.
The beneficiaries were very grateful for this opportunity, they put a lot of effort into building a new home for their family so they can live safely without worrying about landslides or flooding. Despite their hard work, their income is not enough to build a comfy home for their loved ones. The recipients are seeking financial support for the barrel septic tank they will be using for their comfort rooms. Most of them cannot afford the costs of constructing the septic tank because they are labourers and farmers who earn enough to meet their families' daily necessities.
This fundraising campaign aims to help the sixteen families install a septic tank in their new house so they can move in and live safely and comfortably. You can help change their lives by supporting this initiative. Your kindheartedness will significantly improve the lives of those who benefit from this project.
