Ungos is a barangay in the municipality of Real in Quezon Province that have been a home to more than 4,186 residents. It is accessible by all types of land transportation because the barangay is close to the port going to Polillo Island. Due to the town's proximity to the sea, the inhabitants rely mainly on fishing for their daily sustenance. Most of the fishermen are also members of the Port workers association.
Despite the Philippines' riches in marine resources, fishermen are among the poorest in the country. This includes the fishermen of Barangay Ungos. Most do not have boats and must rely on their fellow fishermen. As a result, they make a meagre income that is insufficient to meet the demands of their families' needs. As a result of these circumstances, local fishermen have to find a second job to feed their families. Fishermen who are members of the Port Worker Association do seasonal jobs as porters whenever there is a bulk load of baggage from the passengers.
Unfortunately, this seasonal job as a porter does not provide them with enough income to cover their necessities. As a result, several fishers pursue a much better job that pays well. Some work as construction workers in the city. For the benefit of their families, some fishermen decide to change jobs, whereas others prefer to continue working as fishermen. Although they may currently be going through difficulties, they believe that a time will come when they will also lead comfortable lives.
This fundraising drive aims to help marginalized workers combat poverty and meet the fundamental necessities of their families. To employ them in small-scale net fishing as a secondary source of income. Thirty fishermen will benefit from this project. The recipients were members of the Port Workers Association, which was active at the Port of Real at the time of the pandemic.
Support our fundraising efforts and make a difference in the lives of our local fishermen. Together, we can end poverty.
