Isok I is a barangay in the municipality of Boac, Marinduque. This small community is near the mountain. GK Boac is a housing program that provided eight houses to local beneficiaries in September 2012. The recipients were chosen based on specific criteria, including married couples who did not own house or land and came from indigent families.
The communitys' water source is near a small river. The locals created a hole from which they could retrieve the water. Once the water is clear, they gather it to use in their households for drinking and other essential needs. When the dry season sets in, the villagers have to take a walk to the river to get water for washing clothes and bathing. However, they consider the rainy season a blessing, for it permits them to fetch water from their roofs, which can also be suitable for drinking. Some people even regard rainwater as a safer option than the water from the river.
The community's constant difficulty is ensuring safe and reliable water sources. Some of the residents buy mineral water, which costs PHP 30 per gallon, but some of them cannot afford it; that is why they rely on drinking water from the river or from the rain, which is unsafe, especially for their children.
Due to contaminated water, there was a case where a child from the village passed away from diarrhea, and there was another case where other kids in the village also contracted the illness. Despite this tragedy, some people continue to consume water from contaminated sources since they can't afford to purchase mineral water. Families who cannot afford to buy mineral water resulted to boiling the river or rain water to make it more safer for consumption.
Among the villagers, one said, "We are battling for water in our village, and preserving water to survive for our daily usage is important. The most difficult time of year is summer because we have to conserve every last drop of water! Water security is something we dream about."
The goal of this fundraising campaign is to raise resources to upgrade the community's water supply. One of the necessary modifications is to ensure that the water is safe to drink. To avoid unanticipated events, the LGU will undertake a water analysis to guarantee that the water is safe for consumption.
Help the inhabitants of Barangay Isoc 1 in Boac, Marinduque, improve their water source. A new and upgraded water supply will make it easier for them to access water for their daily needs.
