Help construct a concrete pathway for the convenience and safety of the locals in Barangay Magsaysay, in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

Magsaysay, Nabunturan, Compostela Valley

Community Infrastructure, Environment

Magsaysay is a barangay in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, home to plenty of popular local tourist destinations including fisheries and waterfalls. To get into the community, you need to stroll down the road. Trekking becomes extra difficult during the rainy season because of a glut of mud.

There are 79 students and 89 indigenous families living in the community. They are from the Mandaya and Manguangan tribes. The “Mandaya” tribe can be found in the mountain ranges of Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. The “Manguangan” Tribal People are part of the Malay Peoples affinity bloc; this people group is solely found in the Philippines. They speak Dibabawon Manobo as their mother tongue.

Most of the locals are farmers and labourers. They live a simple life and happy life. The Manguangan tribe is considered frozen in time or living in the Stone Age because they resist modern influences. The Mandaya tribe is well known for its distinctive design and clothes, which feature exquisite needlework and tie-dyeing of fabrics.

They have lived in this community for 15 years and have been travelling these muddy roads for just as long. The elderly and students find it more difficult to walk to the village and school, which some locals can't help but sympathize with, especially during the rainy season. The locals wished to pave the arduous part of the road going in and out of their community. The elderly are experiencing difficulty because of the steep and slippery ground. The students have to remove their shoes to avoid getting filthy because their feet can sink into the mud while trekking the road on their way to school. The walk from the village to the school will sometimes take the students over 25 minutes.

For many years, parents have requested a paved pathway for their children's convenience. They want to alleviate the load that the children are bearing and hope that future generations will not have to endure similar sufferings while walking to school on the muddy path. A concrete route may increase students' motivation to come to class every day.

The goal of this fundraising campaign is to raise sufficient funds to pave 400-meter-distance walkways. This route will make it easier for villagers to cross the road. It will also help the motorcyclist to drive safely and avoid accidents while travelling to this community.

Help the inhabitants of Barangay Magsaysay build concrete paths and instil enthusiasm among their neighbours as they seek to provide the students with a convenient walk to school. #BarangayWalangIwanan
