Barangay Rumungaob in South Upi, Maguindanao, is located on top of a mountain. This community is easily accessible because the road is paved. The residents in this small village are from the “Teduray” tribe and they are the traditional hill people of southwestern Mindanao. They speak the “Tiruray” language and are native inhabitants of this barangay.
The resident’s primary source of income is farming. Some locals opened a little sari-sari store because the town is quite far from this community.
The locals strive to make their town a better and more peaceful place. They want their children to be engaged in sports. That is why they have built the open space in the community into a basketball court; they also use it to hold their fiestas and other community gatherings. Unfortunately, they can only use the activity area during the summer because it is muddy during the rainy season.
A proper and paved basketball court that they can use even in the wet season has been a constant request of the locals for a long time. A basketball court made of concrete is of great benefit to the locals. They would have a decent space to hold their fiestas and other barangay events. The children will have an adequate playground where they will no longer absorb dust from the ground, which can cause ailments such as cough.
This fund-raising endeavour intends to raise funds for the construction of a basketball court in Barangay Rumungaob. We hope to raise excitement among the villagers in the community as they aim to pursue a peaceful life by engaging their children in sports. #BarangayWalangIwanan
