A safe and comfortable home—this was the dream of two dads in Barangay 6, Tanjay City Negros Oriental. Help these two families rebuild their homes, which were damaged by Super Typhoon Odette in 2021.
Super Typhoon Rai (Odette) hit the Philippine provinces on December 16, 2021, bringing landslides, storm surges, torrential rainfall, and severe gusts. One of the provinces severely affected by this typhoon was Negros Oriental, where numerous homes and means of subsistence were destroyed. One of them is the home of Jasper Limbaga and Calexto Amarante. The super typhoon struck their home, causing damage to it.
Jasper and Calexto have been Gawad Kalinga volunteers in Tanjay, Negros Oriental, since 2018. Despite financial hardship, they are happy with their volunteer work at Gawad Kalinga. They believe that financial destitution cannot hinder helping our neighbours, especially those in need.
Jasper and Calextos’ earnings are sufficient to meet their family’s needs. After the onslaught of typhoon Odette in the province, they haven’t made extensive repairs to their homes; instead of purchasing new materials, they use some valuable scrap to repair their damaged homes.
These two dedicated fathers always give their all for their loved ones, yet their income is insufficient to repair it. They hope to build a sturdy house to provide a haven for their family, particularly during the rainy and typhoon seasons.
The proceeds from this fundraising effort will be used to give them hope by repairing their homes and giving them a better place to live.
Help us establish more sustainable communities to end poverty.
