Barangay Sapang Uwak is situated in Porac, Pampanga. An Aeta tribe and 900 more families dwell in this mountainous region near Mt. Pinatubo. Farming is their primary source of income; they grow ube, ginger, turmeric, papaya, banana, gabi, labanos, and other vegetables. The area is also known as one of Pampanga's highest terrain. Despite the rough roads and uphill trek, this community is still quite accessible for motor vehicles.
In this mountainous region, local farmers cultivated their crops. While they are accustomed to life in the highlands, they face difficulties to transport their goods to the market because it is situated a good distance from their community. The cost of transporting their products is around Php600 to Php1,000 for one trip, which may increase even further due to the escalating diesel and gas prices in the world market. This amount already takes away a significant portion of their income.
To help them with their expensive tricycle rentals, a group of farmers sought transportation services from their barangay unit. However, the local barangay unit also lacks the resources to grant their request for help.
Through a partnership between the local officials and Barangay Walang Iwanan (BWI), this fundraising campaign was initiated in order to support our local farmers from Barangay Sapang Uwak. Help us in empowering Aeta farmers through providing them with better access transportation services, so they may sell their products in the city with less costs. They will be able to save and increase their income, which they can utilize for their families’ daily needs.
The total estimated cost of the project is Php82, 634, which will be used to purchase a motorcycle and a sidecar.
