Renovation and restoration of houses and daycare center in GK Kagsabuwa in Barangay Kisolon Sumilao Bukidnon

Kisolon, Sumilao, Bukidnon

Environment, Culture and Tourism

The community of Kagsabuwa in Barangay Kisolon, Sumilao, Bukidnon is named after the first Philippine Eagle from Davao, which was brought to Bukidnon. While it died from an unfortunate event, it continues to give inspiration and hope to 60 of the families residing in this community. The residents here are mostly laborers of the banana and pineapple plantation nearby or workers at the market terminal.

It is located in front of one of Bukidnon’s tourist spots - the Alalum Falls. The families reside in strong and beautiful condominium-type units donated by companies such as Berjaya and San Miguel Corporation. However, it’s been 9 years since the units have been turned over to each family. And because they do not have the luxury to afford paint or other materials to maintain the condition of their homes, these are now dilapidated and need refurbishing to gain back the lively atmosphere in the community. In addition to the homes, the daycare center, which schools the young children in Kagsabuwa, will also be refurbished.

In the upcoming Bayani Challenge 2022, this is one of the communities participating through a painting activity for the volunteers. For this event, the funding needed to purchase paint and tools would cost PHP 107, 425.00.

When an act of kindness multiplies, it helps more people. Everyone can help, no matter how small or big. As long as it comes from the heart, we can persuade more people to help. Financial scarcity is not an obstacle to helping those who are in need.

The repainting of 50 units of houses, a SIBOL school, a guest house for visitors, and a chapel started on August 8 and finished on August 15. Inclement weather delayed the repainting schedule. As the weather became more favorable, they began repainting. Ms. Daisy Bactol, the preschool teacher at SIBOL Learning School, was delighted that the school had been included in the repainting project. It made their school more colourful, which thrilled the students. Teacher Daisy has been teaching at SIBOL Learning School for almost eleven years. It has become her passion to educate the kids in the community. Despite not receiving a regular allowance, she continues teaching at the school. For teacher Daisy, it is a service she willingly provides for the benefit of the community, as she believes that GAWAD KALINGA has not left them behind.

The success of this project serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and generosity. B1G1 and all those who participated have made a positive impact on the lives of the residents of GK Kagsabuwa GK Village. Their unwavering support has instilled hope and joy in the hearts of the people. Let's continue to grow our generosity and build stronger, more resilient communities together.
