The community of Sitio Bakahan is a remote area within Barangay Del Castillo in Sara, Iloilo. It's surrounded by hills but is still quite accessible since there are proper roads nearby. An interesting fact about this barangay is that its name was obtained from a resident who has been there longer than most. The common source of livelihood here would be farming, but some have also focused on gardening and sell their products in the market.
56 families currently reside in the said community however, their only source of water was not maintained properly due to lack of funding. This was a big loss to the community as this is where the residents retrieve water for their day-to-day needs. It's been around 2-3 years since the facility broke down and they could not gather enough resources to fix it. Today, the residents have to fetch water from their neighbors who have access to a water hand pump.
Through this fundraising project, members of the community aim to reconstruct a water system facility that is more durable and sustainable in maintenance. This is quite critical, especially since their livelihood also depend greatly on this water source. The total amount needed to purchase materials and pay for labor to build this facility is PHP 96,340.00.
