This community in Barangay Santa Catalina, Sagbayan, Bohol is located in the center of the town of Bohol with map coordinates of 9.88039 and 124.08016. It is surrounded with hills and is about 5 kilometers away from the town proper. It is quite accessible to the public by car or any vehicle.
For about 5 years now, the residents of the Covo Aloha Village have their cacao products known to many as tablea. It is definitely one of their main sources of income to provide for their families. They currently utilize the traditional process of making tablea, which is significantly time consuming as it normally takes one (1) whole day for products to be ready for sale. It can become very tiring and stressful for the members engaged in this work and because of their lack of resources, their day is almost always consumed by this process.
A cacao mill can definitely hasten the process, allowing them to engage in other opportunities for better way of living. However, the nearest cacao mill can be found 5 kilometers away. Not only do they have to pay for transportation of products, they also have to pay 20 pesos per kilo whenever they have their cacaos milled. As a result, the profits are further reduced due to these extra costs.
Through bayanihan and perseverance, the community would like to raise funds to put up their own cacao mill within the community in order to maximize their tablea production and lessen their costs. This would also allow them to increase their income for their daily sustenance. Their target amount is PHP 45,920.00 to be used to purchase materials in order to build the cacao mill for their community’s use in tablea production.
