Hinaplanon is a barangay in the city of Iligan. It shares a common border with barangays Upper Hinaplanon, Luinab, San Roque, Sta. Filomena, Sto Rosario, and Bagong Silang. Its population is 15,700 with 4,778 households. Barangay Hinaplanon was one of the severely affected communities when one of the worst typhoons hit the Philippines last December 2011, Typhoon Sendong. Originally, Barangay Hinaplanon had 31 Puroks (or communities) but due to the displacement of families from Typhoon Sendong, the barangay has slimmed down the Puroks to 23.
Most of the residents of Barangay Hinaplanon have been employed laborers of a neighboring Lumpia Wrapper manufacturing business where they earn PHP 70.00 per day per person. While some them have other means to provide for their families, the income is not enough to support their daily needs, especially with the ongoing pandemic. Since the residents here have been exposed to this business for more than 20 years, most of them are very familiar with the process of making lumpia wrappers. That’s why they have decided as a community to combine their efforts into establishing their own livelihood program. This will not only empower them as a community, but the income that can potentially result from it should be higher than what they are currently receiving. They are also encouraged to promote the principle of Zero Waste as they plan to produce peanut oil from lumpia wrappers that do not meet their quality standards.
The community is seeking for support to raise capital in order to construct a facility for their Lumpia Wrapper making business. They need to raise PHP 79,195.00 to purchase materials and the equipment needed. They are very excited to begin the process already as most of them really need the income in order to provide daily for their families.
