New Clarin Multi-Purpose Drying Pavement (Solar Dryer)

New Clarin (Miral), Bansalan, Davao del Sur

Farming, Food Sufficiency

GK New Clarin is a remote community located in Barangay New Clarin, Bansalan, Davao Del Sur. This area is surrounded by rice fields and their main source of income is farming. The famers normally use tarpaulins or sacks to dry their rice products under the sun. The residents of the community of GK New Clarin used to live by the road, which they occupied for drying their products, but they were displaced by developments in road widening and transferred to a farther evacuation facility.

The residents of this community heavily depend on their rice products. The transfer to the evacuation facility has been challenging to them, especially during the rainy season, since they have nowhere to dry their rice products. As a result, their grains turn out to be of low quality, decreasing its market price when sold. In effect, this also decreases the income they receive for their daily sustenance.

In order to recuperate from their losses from the transfer of residence and also from the effects of the ongoing pandemic, the farmers are hoping to raise enough resources to purchase a solar dryer that will help them securely dry their rice grains even during the rainy season. Through this fundraising opportunity, they aim to raise PHP 472,000 in order to purchase and set-up a solar dryer for their farming use.

Since Barangay New Clarin is in a remote part of Davao del Sur, the villagers' lives are simple. Their scarce income from harvested crops is only enough to meet the necessities of their families. Help us make their request possible, have their gathered rice duly dried, deal it at a good price, and avert their loss of income and the losses of our hardworking agriculturists.

Let's help them arise from poverty; no one will be left behind if we all work together.

When an act of kindness multiplies, it helps more people. Everyone can help, no matter how small or big. As long as it comes from the heart, we can persuade more people to help. Financial scarcity is not an obstacle to helping those who are in need.

The construction of a paved drying area for the rice grains got underway on September 19, 2022, and was completed on December 2, 2022. This project has multiple benefits, not just for the farmers but also for the youth. The drying area can also be used for various sports activities when it is not in use by the farmers.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, we are grateful to everyone who was part of the multi-purpose concrete drying pavement. May your generosity multiply as a way we can create more resilient communities.
